Donate things we can use

Two main types of donation REALLY help us:

  1. Good quality, clean, second hand clothes, children’s clothes, toys and small bric-a-brac items.  We sort and sell these on our Friday market stall, which raises around £2,000 for the Step Forward project every year.
  2. Unwanted gifts such as toiletries, chocolates, tins of biscuits, bed-lines, bottles, games – new and unused please – that we can put in our fundraising raffles. We run at least six or seven raffles a year so we are always looking for prizes.

VOLUNTEERS:

Donate your time and energy through volunteering. Our current main needs for volunteers are:

  1. Lunch Club volunteers who can help prepare, serve and clear meals for up to 30 older people on weekdays from 9.30am to 2pm.  You can do one day or five days, regular or one-off, starting 9.30am or 11am – we are very flexible and always grateful.
  2. Helpers at our children’s and young people’s cooking and gardening sessions.
  3. Gardeners, especially those with a little experience who can help nurture the gardens in between the group sessions.

We regularly post and update all our volunteering opportunities on the Merton Voluntary Services Council’s website – here https://www.mvsc.co.uk/volunteering (this is linked to the national Do-it website, here – https://do-it.org/opportunities/search ) and on https://volunteerteam.london.gov.uk/.

There may be other ways you can help – we are always eager for suggestions!  Last year Root7, www.root7.com/ donated a hog roast for our fun day from partners, Big Roast, http://bigroast.com/ !  And United Living,  http://unitedliving.co.uk/   have very helpfully taken away some yard rubbish for free in one of their skip drives!

We are also pleased to accept work experience placements, and working towards our Fair Train accreditation:  http://www.fairtrain.org/ .  Contact naomi@commonside.net for more information.
