Commonside Community development trust known as ‘Commonside’ has been revealed as one of the fastest growing social enterprises in the UK.

The development trust based in Pollards Hill, South West London was ranked number 84 on the RBS SE100′s growth leader table.

Irene Miles, chair of the Commonside Community Development Trust said

I am thrilled to find that we are listed in the RBS SE100. Many thanks to all the staff who have made this achievement possible. The only way now is up.

The RBS SE100 is the first index of its kind, charting the growth and impact of social businesses across the UK. Commonside had an annual growth of 26.92% and an annual turn over of 321,426 between March 2008 and April 2009.

Commonside Community Development was set up in 2002 as part of the regeneration of Pollards Hill. The services and projects at Commonside are in place to support local people and encourage them to get involved with their local community.

Naomi Martin, director of the Commonside Community Development Trust said

This news is particularly welcome, especially in a week when Commonside has signed a new contract with the London Borough of Merton to deliver a daily lunch club for up to 30 older people

The lunch club, for older people caters for an average 30 clients providing them with a hot meal and fun activity on weekdays (excluding bank holidays). Commonside can also organise transport to and from the centre.

Civil society minister Nick Hurd who was the keynote speaker at the RBS SE100 awards ceremony last month, will be visiting Merton Voluntary Services Council (MVSC) on 22nd July 2010. Hurd will be discussing the possibilities of big society in the area.
