We are looking for volunteers to work regular shifts in our Community Café. We need someone who can volunteer to work from 8.30am to 11.30am OR 10.30am to 1.30pm. It’s help with setting up in the morning and clearing up in the afternoon that we really want. If you can prepare food and serve as well then that would be great. If you want it we can offer free Food Hygiene Training Levels 1 or 2, to committed volunteers. Being a member of Commonside’s volunteer team is a valued position in this organisation. We support anyone, who helps us, to move on into training and employment if this is what they want. Don’t forget – volunteering always looks good on a C.V.!

Your Community Café

The Community Café at the New Horizon Centre is open Monday to Friday and serves hot & cold drinks, breakfasts and light lunches. It’s a great place to meet friends and find out what’s going on in the area and at the centre. We have notice boards full of information and staff willing to assist – just ask. So, whether it’s a full English for breakfast or a salad for lunch, we are here for you and yours!

The Café is open:

Monday 8am – 1.30pm

Tuesday 11.30am – 1.30pm

Wednesday 11.30pm – 1.30pm

Thursday 9am – 1.30pm

Friday 8am – 1.30pm

Serving: Sandwiches, rolls, cooked breakfasts (egg, sausage, bacon, beans, toast etc), salads, fruit, cereal, crisps, biscuits, teas, coffees, hot chocolate and canned drinks.

Merton Jobs Fair

We were delighted to host Merton’s Jobs Fair on Thursday October 2012. Over 500 people signed in to the Jobs Fair, and were able to find information on local employment and training, jobs and volunteering. Several of the stallholders ran out of application forms because there was so much interest, and our community café was exceptionally busy! Both of these are signs of a very successful day and we are proud what we achieved. We look forward to working in partnership with colleagues at LB Merton again very soon.
